Offering downloads is something I have never done before in one of my early blogs. Because this blog is all about learning I thought it might be helpful to understand what options I have for offering downloads.
There are a lot of different solutions, most of them for free but usually all around offering paid downloads or content. Because I’m currently at a stage where I just want to share sometime templates or developments with you that I worked on during my learning path I wanted to offer something for free.
My requirements for a download manager
- It hast to be simple to use
- Option to extend functionality also for paid content downloads
- Easily manageable content
- Up-to-date with latest WordPress versions
After some research I came across the WordPress Download Manager from W3 Eden. It is simple, always up to date with the latest WordPress versions and very simple to use. They also offer a lot of premium content packs to make it even more easier to use the plugin, but also the free version offers everything I need.
WordPress Download Manager – Setup
Setup of the plugin is kind of easy:
- Navigate to Plugins > Add New.
- Download/Install WordPress Download Manager.
A new section is created in the WordPress navigation bar called Downloads. - Open Downloads section.
- Click Add New.
Similar to a WordPress post you can add content to your download page and adjust the look and feel of it. You can select the template you want to use and if the download is visible to all or just to registered members.
And that’s it! If you wanna check out my downloads, move over to the Downloads section.
